ENABLING INNOVATIONS TO THRIVE SINCE 2006

JANUARY 2023

Cleantech Venture Day, January 2023

The meeting place for Cleantech Companies, Investors, and Corporates; the January event marked the 16th consecutive year of this high level pitching event.

Held at the prestigious Canary Wharf offices of Barclays, the room was full with over 70 VC’s, family offices and SDG aligned investors.

18 innovators pitched across 3 categories - Circular Economy, Transport & Carbon Reduction and Energy.

GLOBAL FUTURESHAPERS

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Bio-Sep

Award-winning bio-refinery using ultrasonic fractionated technology to convert low-value woody biomass, such as sawdust, into high value lignin, microcrystalline cellulose and hemicellulose hydrolysate .

Cambridge Smart Plastics

Making barrier packaging solutions sustainable using a novel nanocellulose coating technology. At 0.03mm thick its allows plastic packaging to become a total oxygen and water vapor barrier, which today is achieved only by metallisation.

Zori Tex

Zori Tex are on a mission to eliminate textile waste to landfill and incineration through technology innovation that sorts textile feedstocks for closed loop recycling.

EPOP

EPOP generates digital receipts for consumers whilst removing 2.5g of carbon per paper receipt. At the same time it also empowers deep customer behaviour for merchants.

Flex Sea

FlexSea develop biomaterials to replace single use plastics. Derived from naturally occurring seaweed from widely cultivated red seaweed strains, they are truly compostable, unlike most other bioplastics, decomposing in natural environments such as soil, marine ecosystems.

re-universe

re-universe supports companies and organisations targeting net zero by providing a commercially attractive solution and delivering behaviour change through incentives to increase reuse and recycling and reduce carbon emissions.

TRANSPORT & CARBON REDUCTION

ENSO

ENSO is developing sustainable tyres for electric vehicles, delivering sustainable mobility by improving the performance and environmental impact of tyres.

Green Jets

Zero-emission aviation such as drones, air taxis and electric aircraft collectively represent the 3rd revolution in aerospace. Greenjets is developing electric jet engines that will power this market.

Cambridge Electric Transport

The Bizbike commuter e-bike share service encourages employees to switch from cars to bikes. The CitiPod, a 4-wheel e-bike/microcar makes cycling safer and more inclusive.

Real Carbon Tech

Patent-protected solution offers direct CO2 and Hydrogen to methanol conversion faster and cheaper than traditional methods. The company has built a 200 TPA demo installation of direct methanol synthesis.

Reforestum

A technology stack that promotes traceability of forestry projects through AI and satellite monitoring. Users can track the impact of the nature-based solutions they are funding which drives higher commitment to climate change mitigation efforts.

Weather Trade Net

Through a unique combination of deeptech, climatetech and fintech, Weather Trade Net helps companies to assess and manage their climate-related physical risks and improve their sustainability impact.

ENERGY TRANSITION

Bluemethane

Three billion tonnes of greenhouse gases escape from water based methane every year. Bluemethane has developed technologies to remove methane from water permanently whilst also creating a new source of renewable energy.

Chimera Energy

With a high demand in battery cell manufacturing, Chimera Energy’s aim is to address both battery pack remanufacture for the Circular Economy and cost effective benefits of multi-chemistry power-energy.

Global OTEC

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion uses solar heat energy absorbed by the ocean to harness renewable electricity, reducing energy costs and stabilising the price of electricity for island nations.

IPG

Using flameless combustion technology to deliver a clean and green alternative to dispatchable, distributed power source and enable businesses to end their reliance on diesel generators.

Open Hydro

To meet net zero targets, hydropower needs to double its capacity, yet there are concerns about emissions and climate risk, leading it to only receive 2% of climate-aligned energy investment. Open Hydro provides sector specific analysis to allay investors concerns.

WASE

Turning sewerage, industrial and agricultural waste into bioenergy, on-site, more quickly and with 20% more energy generation than alternatives.

The CVD is a ‘must attend’ event for us! There are always exciting companies showcased that are at the forefront of developing solutions towards climate change and are potentially excellent investment opportunities. Additionally and somewhat uniquely, the calibre of attendee and panel speakers on the day brings an excellent insight to the latest trends and insights to the cleantech market.
